Thailand golf tours

Thailand is one of the best-value golf destinations in the world: championship courses at a third of European green fees, caddies included, and a tee time you can book the same week. This is the trip built around it.

Where to play

Three bases, very different games

Bangkok — the widest choice and the best clubs, 40–70 minutes from the city centre. Alpine, Thai Country Club, Nikanti. Weekday green fees $60–110.

Hua Hin — the classic. Banyan, Black Mountain, Springfield, and the oldest course in Thailand at the Railway Hotel. Quieter, cheaper, better weather in the cool season.

Chiang Mai — highland courses with mountain views and cooler air. Better as a two-round add-on than a dedicated golf week.

Phuket — the most expensive and the most scenic. Mission Hills and Red Mountain. Combine with a beach stay.

What it actually costs

Green fee plus compulsory caddie: $55–120 depending on course and day. Cart is often extra ($15–20) and on some courses compulsory. Clubs rent for $25–40. A private car and driver for the day is $78, which for four golfers is cheaper than four taxis and removes the 05:50 tee-time problem entirely.

Caddies are compulsory

Every course in Thailand assigns a caddie, and the fee (฿350–500) is part of the round. They read the greens better than you do. Tip ฿200–300 if the service was good.

Practical

Six things to know

Dress code is enforced — collared shirt, no jeans, no sandals. Soft spikes only. Most courses require a handicap certificate for the championship tracks. Weekday mornings are cheapest and quietest. Rain delays in September are real but short. And book tee times through us rather than at the hotel desk, which marks up 20–30%.

Can non-golfers come along?

Yes — they can ride in the cart or use the spa and pool. Most clubs charge a small buggy fee for a rider.

Do we need to bring clubs?

Not for a short trip. Rental sets are $25–40 and decent. Bring your own for a two-week trip or if you are particular about shafts.

Is it playable in the rainy season?

Yes. Rain comes in short afternoon bursts, and mornings are usually clear. Green fees drop 30–40% from May to October.

Can you combine golf with a family trip?

Yes, and Hua Hin is the best base for it — the beach, the pool and the courses are all within fifteen minutes.

What a round actually costs

Green fees in Thailand run $40–120 for 18 holes, and a caddie is compulsory at nearly every course at about $12 plus a tip of $8–15. Add a cart ($20) at courses where it is required, and a round is $80–160 before you count the hotel. That is the number to compare with Spain or Portugal, where the same standard of course is two to three times the price.

The best value is Chiang Mai in the cool season and Hua Hin year-round. Phuket is the most expensive and the most crowded in January; Bangkok has the widest choice within an hour of the city.

How the packages work

We book tee times directly rather than through an agency, which is why we can move a round when it rains. Packages include hotel, breakfast, private transfers to each course and the green fee and caddie; clubs can be hired at every course for $20–30, so there is no need to fly with your own.

Handicaps and paperwork

Most courses ask for a handicap certificate and enforce a maximum of 28 for men and 36 for women. In practice this is checked at the better courses and ignored at the rest. Dress code is enforced everywhere: collared shirt, tailored shorts or trousers, no denim, and golf shoes or trainers.

How many rounds?

Tell us the dates and the handicap — we will build the courses around it.
