Phuket airport transfer
Phuket airport sits at the north of the island; almost every beach is an hour south. Fixed-price private transfers to Patong, Kata, Kamala, Bang Tao and Rawai, with the driver waiting inside arrivals.
A Phuket airport transfer costs $38 for a sedan, fixed in advance. The airport is at the north of the island, so Patong is 45–60 minutes away and Kata about 75 minutes. Airport taxis are unmetered and quote by zone.

The airport is on the wrong side of the island
Phuket is 48 km long and the airport is at the top of it. Patong is 45–60 minutes away, Kata and Karon 70–85, Rawai nearly 90. That is a long way to negotiate at midnight with a suitcase.
The airport taxi desk sells fixed-price tickets by zone, which is honest and not cheap: roughly ฿800–1,000 to Patong, ฿1,000–1,200 to Kata. A private transfer is comparable or slightly less, and includes the meeting service and waiting time. Grab works in Phuket, but availability collapses at 01:00 and the app price surges exactly when you need it.
The other thing nobody mentions: hotel transfer desks in Phuket routinely quote ฿1,200–1,500 for the same trip if you ask at check-in for a return leg. Book both legs together and it costs less.
| Destination | Time | Sedan | Van |
|---|---|---|---|
| Patong | 50–70 min | $38 | $52 |
| Kata / Karon | 70–85 min | $45 | $58 |
| Kamala / Surin | 45–60 min | $40 | $54 |
| Bang Tao / Laguna | 35–45 min | $36 | $50 |
| Nai Harn / Rawai | 80–95 min | $48 | $62 |
| Phuket Old Town | 35–45 min | $34 | $46 |
| Khao Lak | 80–95 min | $58 | $72 |
Transfers between the coasts
If you are combining Phuket with Krabi or Koh Lanta, the road transfer is the part most itineraries get wrong. Times are real driving times in normal traffic, not optimistic ones.
| Route | Time | Sedan |
|---|---|---|
| Phuket → Krabi (Ao Nang) | 2 hrs 30 | $85 |
| Phuket → Khao Sok | 2 hrs 30 | $95 |
| Phuket → Koh Lanta (car + ferry) | 4 hrs | $140 |
How early should I leave for the airport?
Three hours before an international flight from Patong, two and a half from Kata. The Sarasin bridge at the north of the island is the bottleneck — a 20-minute delay there is normal between 16:00 and 19:00.
Do you cover arrivals after midnight?
Yes, with a small night supplement. The airport is quiet then and the drive is faster — Patong in 45 minutes is normal at 01:00.
Can you take surfboards or dive gear?
Yes in a van; tell us at booking so we bring the right vehicle and straps. Sedans cannot take a board bag over 1.8 m.
Is a shared minibus cheaper?
It is — about $12–15 per person — but it stops at several hotels and can take twice as long. With two or more people a private transfer is usually cheaper in total.
What the journey actually costs by zone
Phuket airport sits at the north of the island, and the fare depends almost entirely on how far south you are going. Nai Yang and Mai Khao are 10 minutes and $22. Bang Tao and Surin are 25–35 minutes and $30. Patong is 45–60 minutes and $38. Kata and Karon are 65–75 minutes and $42. Rawai and Nai Harn are 80 minutes and $48.
Airport taxis are unmetered and priced by zone from a board at the kerb, roughly ฿800 to Patong and ฿1,000 to Kata. Grab works at Phuket airport but pick-up is from a designated point a five-minute walk from arrivals, which is not obvious at midnight.
Why the fixed price matters here
Phuket has the least predictable airport transfer in Thailand. The queue at peak arrivals in high season runs 30–60 minutes, the taxi desk closes late at night, and the "limousine" touts inside arrivals charge double the board price. A fixed transfer with a driver holding a sign removes all three problems for the same money as the taxi board.
Late flights and early departures
We track the flight number, so a two-hour delay costs nothing and the driver waits. For departures before 07:00 we pick up three hours before the flight, which is earlier than you think and correct for Phuket — the check-in queue at peak season is genuinely 45 minutes.
Phuket arrival, arranged.
Send the flight number and the hotel — we confirm the driver and the price the same day.
