The floating market, honestly
Pattaya's floating market is built, not grown. It was opened in 2008 as a four-regions food and craft market, and it is a good morning if you know that going in — and a disappointment if you expect Damnoen Saduak.
What you are actually visiting
Talad Nam Si Phum is a purpose-built market on the Jomtien side, laid out as four zones representing the north, north-east, centre and south. The boats are real, the canals are real, and the vendors are selling food they actually cook — but nobody lives here and nothing is landed here. It is a museum of a market that works, and it is honest about it.
That makes it genuinely good for two things: eating your way through four regional cuisines in one morning, and buying handicrafts at fixed prices without the haggling theatre. The boat ride through the canals takes fifteen minutes and is the part children remember.
If you want the real thing
Go to Damnoen Saduak, two hours west of Bangkok, where the boats are loaded at dawn and the produce is going to market rather than to a photo. We run it as a day trip from Bangkok and it is a much earlier start. The honest comparison: Damnoen is real and crowded and 5am; Pattaya's is built, calm, and open at nine.
The wood carving stop
Next door is a working carving workshop — the same family business that supplies several of the temples on our routes. Twenty minutes, no pressure to buy, and the only place on this itinerary where you see something being made rather than sold.
| Stop | Time | What it is |

Before you book
Is this a real floating market?
No, and we say so on the page. It was built in 2008 as a food and craft market in the style of a floating market. If you want the real one, Damnoen Saduak — we run it from Bangkok.
Is it good for children?
Very. Short boat ride, no long walks, food they recognise, and a carving workshop where someone is using a chisel. It is the easiest half day on our Pattaya list.
Are prices fixed?
In the market, mostly yes, which is unusual and relaxing. The workshop sells at fixed prices too. Haggling is not expected and does not get you much.
Can we combine it with the Sanctuary of Truth?
Yes, and it is the best half-day pairing in Pattaya: market at 09:00, Sanctuary at 15:00 for the light. Six hours total with a gap for lunch.
Check your date.
Tell us the day and how many of you — we confirm the market hours, which change in low season.
